Oklahoma!

Ashley with Mrs. Davis
Ashley has been busy over the last 4 months. She auditioned for two plays and made both of them. Their rehearsal time overlapped, so she had double rehearsals for a few weeks.

Ashley as Billy's Mom (she doesn't want him playing with young MLK)

The first play was about Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks for Black History Month. It was an eye opening experience for Ashley, and she learned valuable lessons of our history during the production. When she decided to audition, she said, "Mom, I don't know if I should do this because all of the white people's characters are racists." But when we talked about the importance of what she was doing, she decided to continue. It was also interesting for her to realize what happened and that those events took place so close to where we live.

It was great to see so many kids involved with the production. After the play, they cleared out the chairs and had a DJ come in for their cast party. How entertaining! Ashley at the cast party

Before the MLK play wrapped, rehearsals started for Oklahoma! This was an 80 person cast, it was a pretty amazing production. There was not only a large cast of leading roles, but a lot of solos, and a lot of choreography. Ashley was part of the choir and she had a blast. They had 6 performances and each one was amazing, I can't get over the talent in this town, the performances from each student was flawless!
